Awards

As winemakers through and through, we feel especially happy when our wines not only make for enjoyable drinking, but are also well received and win plaudits from critics and the wine media. Every award spurs us on to keep heading down our chosen path and put a little more effort into our day-to-day work with the vines and wines.

GAULT MILLAU 2024

Philipp Bründlmayer is an up-and-coming young winemaker who is very enthusiastic about the many small terraced vineyards that his father Josef swapped for other areas of the original mixed farm in the 1990s – this is how the transformation into a winery took place. Philipp has been at the helm since 2015 and his wine series is impressive across the board. We love the precision of the Rieslings and the fine balance of the Veltliners. The 2017 Reserve is also in great shape.”

ROBERT PARKER WINE ADVOCATE

Philipp Bründlmayer has been at the family domaine only since 2015, but he has since “turned everything upside down, labels, style, claim, credo, vision…,” as he writes. His first years were, above all, marked by the noticeable phenomena of climate change. “Hail with 90% damage, frost, late frost, periods of heat and consequently drought, not dangerous for the old vines, but dangerous for the typicality of the ‘Kremser’ wines.” 2020 began much like almost all recent years, but it represents “a year like it used to be” in the former, pre-global warming times. “A dry, mild winter with far too little rain was followed by humidity in spring with decent temperature fluctuations. A late budbreak, and after the peak of the dry period in April, came May with rainfall well above the long-term average. Then it continued rapidly with vegetative growing and flowering. Summer was cool but very wet.” The focus in the vineyard was put on manual defoliation to keep the balance between shadow and sunlight to prevent the grapes from both rot and sunburn. The harvest started at the end of September and went for one month. “Sorting was necessary, but what then came into the cellar was pure joy: less sugar, more acidity, more freshness, the typical Veltiner spices and all bone dry…

” 2020 is a classic “cool-climate” vintage with accordingly coolish and spicy wines that are all on an excellent level.”

GAULT MILLAU 2023

“Once a mixed farming operation, Josef Bründlmayer’s spark for wine ignited, to which he devoted himself entirely from 1990 onwards. In 2015, son Philipp took over the business. After a sound education and with an open view of the world, he left hardly a stone unturned. New labels, new wines, new style. His vines are in 100 vineyards on 25 hectares.
The grapes produce a collection that is crystal clear, purist and, above all, utterly convincing.”

GAULT MILLAU 2022

“The grandfather began with farming, the spark ignited in the father – since 1990 he has devoted himself entirely to wine: in 2015 Philipp Bründlmayer took over the business. After a sound education and with an open view of the world, he left hardly a stone unturned. New labels, new wines, new style. What has remained unifying between the generations is the passion for making wine and getting the best out of each grape variety and each terroir.”

GAULT MILLAU 2021

“In 2015 Philipp Bründlmayer took over his parents’ business. After a sound education and with an open view of the world, he left hardly a stone unturned. New labels, new wines, new style. What connects him with his ancestors, however, is the great passion for making wine. And: to get the best out of each grape variety and each terroir – which covers 23 hectares.
Bravo, the complete series from 2019 is more than successful”.

GAULT MILLAU 2020

Another increase – congratulations to Philipp Bründlmayer on his impressive wine series. Especially the Riesling is one of the best in the Kremstal. Bravo! We also like the stylistically confident Neuburger, which is enormously typical of the grape variety, with a fine nutty aroma and light blossoms as well as a lot of charm and finesse on the palate. This splendid wine has a balanced and supporting acidity and is predestined as a food companion for old Austrian cuisine.

GAULT MILLAU 2019

“It was already foreseeable last year that great things would happen here. This year, the enormously talented Philipp Bründlmayer was able to make further gains with his collection. Really great class. Nearly every wine shines very special. The Veltliners are of a fine spiciness and elegance, the Rieslings have the right dose of piquancy and minerality. Above all, the Steingraben, which smells wonderfully of vineyard peach. Neuburger and Pinot Blanc are also tops. Keep it up!

GAULT MILLAU 2018

Philipp Bründlmayer is one of the most exciting discoveries of this year’s tasting season. His wine series is strong in character and very authentic. In harmonious cooperation with his father, wines are created that captivate through their drinking flow and the typical grape variety. We are most impressed by the Riesling Steingraben with its ripe citrus fruit and wonderful piquancy as well as by the firm, mineral-spicy Veltliner Vordernberg”.
